Quetzalcoatlus (at my feeder?)

quetzalcoatlus_northropi_01As I drank my coffee this morning, I watched the usual crowd of songbirds and squirrels visit my old maple tree and backyard feeders… an incredibly peaceful and pleasurable way to start the day. It occurred to me that, 100 million years ago, the activity outside my window would have been VERY different. Enter Quetzalcoatlus northropi, one of the largest, and meanest, pterosaurs.

quetzalcoatlus_northropi_npsThis flying dinosaur was almost as tall as a giraffe and had a wingspan as wide as a fighter jet. Thanks goodness they went extinct about 66 million years before I hung up my bird feeders! Learn more about pterosaurs at National Geographic’s online magazine!

Armour Up!

As if being an EV3 Robot isn’t enough, some students in grades 4 and 5 decided to pull out our Knex bin and build a full-body suit of armour for their robot. Super cool!!!
